Epilepsy is a syndrome of temporary derangement, stems from the brain repeatedly attacked, caused by hyper excitation of nerve cells which produces excessive electric discharge.  Due to the form of onset is different; it is divided into several types.  The three types often seen clinically are:
(1) The major onset.  In the early stage of attack, the patient always has a few seconds of the premonitory feeling of unhappiness followed by the lost of consciousness and the sudden tumble.  The whole body straightens and forms tetanic spasm.  His breathing stops.  The complexion turns livid.  The platycoria appears.  After a few seconds to half minute, the four limbs and the body begin to convulse and the breathing is irregular.  Then, the convulsion ceases.  The person falls into lethargy, from which the person wakes up after a few hours.
(2) The minor onset.  Generally, the manifestation is the abrupt and temporary lost of consciousness.  It
continues no more than 30 seconds.  The patient is commonly seen, while in his motion, abruptly halts with orthophoria and accompanied with phaneromia, suck as nictitating, nod and mastication.  Shortly, the person resumes normal activity and does not fall or convulse.
(3) The psychic epilepsy.  The patient appears suddenly to have uncontrollable confusion of consciousness.  Its manifestation includes over excitation of speech and action, a lot of aimless motions, such as anger, fear, destroying things, assaulting people, biting others and etc.  These phenomena may continue for several hours.   The person involved cannot recall afterwards.
Other than the three types mentioned above, some of the patients show localized onset, like that of the
clonic spasm of unilateral corner of the mouth or the upper limbs , obstructed with unconsciousness. Some
of the patients' manifestation is the disorder of clonic vegetative nervous function. The most commonly
seen is the paroxysmal diffuse headache; the secondarily are the clonic abdominal pain always accompanied with vomit.  The onset of epilepsy, during the infancy, is more peculiar.  The procurvation of the child's head turns towards the body; the upper limbs are anteceding abductor; the flexion of the lower limbs stretches to abdomen.  The convulsion twitches 1 to 2 seconds, mitigates a few seconds, and twitches repeatedly.  They are often accompanied with the lost of consciousness.
